Brandenburg's Windstar
|
Sadly, Brandenburg's Windstar
passed away in December of 2011.
Windstar was
a kind and generous horse with great heart,
and we all miss him.
His legacy lives on in his offspring.
Somewhere
in time's own space
There must be some sweet pastured
place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees
grow
Some paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again.

Windstar himself had an undefeated Eventing career before retiring
from competition to stand at stud; five wins out of five
events. He also
excelled at Dressage shows, winning his classes with
scores averaging over 70 percent. Registered
with the Irish Draught Horse Society (North America), he was approved at their inspection as a three-year old in
1997, where he received high praise from judges in Ireland,
Canada, and the USA. Windstar
has passed on his correct conformation, impressive movement
and exceptional jumping ability to his offspring. His
babies tend to be athletic horses with good balance, keen intelligence,
and superior jumping ability. They
inherit their sire's lovely, elastic way of
going and bold, scopey jump.

Windstar
had some of the top
bloodlines in Ireland in his lineage on both sides. His
Thoroughbred sire, 'I'm A Star', led the Eventing world as a
sire in the late 1990s and early 2000s. He produced numerous
successful International Three-day Event horses, including
Burghley and Badminton winner Star Appeal, as well as
Phyllis's Advanced level horses, Star Bright and Sirius.
Windstar's Irish Draught dam, Kildalton Seabreeze, is
descended from some of the best jumping bloodlines in
Ireland. Her
sire, Sea Crest, is well known as a producer of top show
jumpers, including the internationally renowned 'Cruising'.
Her maternal grandsire is King of Diamonds, one of
the all-time great Irish Draught stallions, who was renowned
for his jumping ability, and made a huge contribution to the
breed as he passed on his talent to his descendants.

We
are extremely proud of the quality of Windstar's offspring.
They are generally big and
attractive; exceptionally good movers with excellent
conformation and a strong resemblance to their sire. Windstar stamped his offspring with his lovely
elastic and athletic way of going, extraordinary jumping
ability, and great personality. His
foals are straight and correct, athletic, and well balanced.
Most of my broodmares are TBs, so our Irish Sport
Horse babies are 3/4 Thoroughbred, which I consider perfect
for Eventing.
Windstar's babies are having phenomenal success in
competition. A
number of his offspring are Eventing successfully
at the Advanced level.
Arthur, owned and ridden by Allison Springer, has represented
the US internationally.
Polaris recently made his four-star debut at the Landrover
Kentucky CCI four-star with Sarah Gumbiner, jumping clear
around the hugely challenging course. Many of
Windstar's descendents are competing
successfully in Eventing, Dressage, Hunters and Show
Jumping, while others are excellent foxhunters or pleasure
horses. You can see some of his other successful
progeny on the Windstar's
Offspring page.
